FAQs

How long does it take to get a review?

We like to receive ARCs six weeks in advance of feature, so if you’d like a pre-release review, please be sure to submit with enough lead time.

If I receive a review that I feel is unfair, what can I do about it?

We hope this never happens, but if it does, please contact us immediately and we will look into it. Please understand, though, that reading is subjective, and one person may enjoy a book that another does not.

You say you only review G/PG rated books. What does that mean exactly?

It means that if the book were a movie being rated by the Motion Picture Associaton of America, it would be rated G or PG. For their definition of what can be present in a G or PG rated movie follow this link. Please note, however, that this is a basic guideline to help draw a line. We reserve the right to review only the books we so choose. Just because a book falls under the MPAA’s G/PG rating, does not guarantee its review.

Why do you only accept electronic ARCs?

We only accept electronic ARCs for several reasons. One, it is less expensive for everyone involved. Hardcopy ARCs and post-release review copies cost the publisher or author money to send. Since most publishers will eventually create an electronic copy of a book before printing, providing that copy is a cost-effective way to get ARCs to Novel Editions. Two, electronic ARCs are less time-consuming. Most hardcopy ARCs are shipped via media mail. This can take up to three weeks just for the publisher to get an ARC to Novel Editions. Then, because our reviewers are spread throughout the world, it takes as long again to get the ARC to the reviewer. Emailing PDF files takes moments only. And, Three, electronic ARCs are environmentally friendly. Electronic ARCs don't use paper, don't create waste, and don't need to be recycled (Oh, wait, that last one falls more under less time-consuming!)
